“Kill me” demands from police van attacker in Toronto

April 24, 2018

Alek Minassian was arrested 26 minutes after he allegedly drove a white rental van into a crowd in the north end of Toronto killing 10 people and injuring 15 others, Toronto police said.

A bystander video of the incident, shown on CBC TV, shows a man repeatedly pointing an object at a police officer who shouts at him to ‘get down’ as the suspect demands: “Kill me”.

The 25 years-old boy Alek, attended a high school program for students with special needs where he would often walk the halls with his head down and hands tightly clasped, according to his classmates.

“He wasn’t a social person, but he was absolutely harmless.” One of his classmates said.

Manissian's motives for the attack are still unknown, police says. The driver’s actions “definitely looked deliberate,” said Mark Saunders, Toronto Police Chief.

Minassian’s Facebook page could not be accessed through the social networking site. On March 2014 he posted his progress developing software in a blog saying he had started to work at Seneca College’s Centre for Development of Open Technology.

Father of van attack suspects attended the court today.
