- London - A hunt for the person who placed the device is under way. The area around the Parsons Green
An "improvised explosive device" was detonated on a Tube train in south-west London during Friday's morning rush hour. The blast, at Parsons Green station on a District Line train from Wimbledon, is being treated as terrorism. Twenty-two people have been treated in hospitals, mostly for burns, though at least eight have now been discharged. A hunt for the person who placed the device is under way and the area around the station has been evacuated. Specialist officers have been securing the remains of the improvised device and ensuring it is stable. Prime Minister Theresa May condemned the "cowardly" attack, which she said had "intended to cause significant harm". She said the UK's terror threat level would remain at severe - the second highest - but would be under review. Speaking in Downing Street after chairing a meeting of the Cobra emergency committee, she said there would be an increased armed police presence on the transport network in London. Hundreds of detectives and MI5 are investigating the attack, which took place at 08:20 BST on an eastbound train. Assistant Commissioner Mark Rowley earlier refused to say whether anyone had been arrested. Pictures taken of the train show a white bucket on fire inside a supermarket bag, with wires trailing on to the carriage floor. The BBC understands the device had a timer. BBC security correspondent Frank Gardner said the bomb appeared not to have gone off. Had it worked as intended, it would have killed everyone around it and maimed everyone in the train carriage for life, he said. Read More

#Facebook #MarkZuckerberg #Apple #MicrosoftCorp #GoogleInc #DACA

Online pro-immigration groups with close ties to the Democratic Party are working to raise money for The DACA Renewal Fund operated. The immigrants brought into the U.S illegally by their parents, known as Dreamers, should apply before Oct. 5 to renew their work permits for another two years. “ Many of the immigrants who are students or low-wage earners can’t afford the $495 application fee .” said in a statement FWD.us. FWD.us, primarily funded by Silicon Valley entrepreneurs, is a pro-immigration group lobbying for changes to U.S. immigration policies. Headed by the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg, FWD.us, is aiming to improve the US science and technology education system. Today the FWD.us is mobilizing the tech community to help undocumented immigrants brought to the United States as children to reapply for a program that shields them from deportation. According to a report by FWD.us, 91 percent of DACA recipients are employed. At least 75 percent of the largest companies in America are benefiting from “Dreamers” because they have employees who identifies as a DACA employee. Technology companies such as Apple Inc, Alphabet Inc’s Google Inc, Microsoft Corp and Facebook have made strong public statements against Trump’s policy and voiced support for employees affected by the change. #MarkZuckerberg #Facebook #DACA #Apple #AlphabetInc #GoogleInc #MicrosoftCorp
- Trump and Democrats agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA into law quickly, and to work out a p
The construction of a wall along the length of the U.S. border with Mexico and the DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) legislation were the top subject on the Chines dinner at the White House with President D. Trump, Senate Democratic leader Chuck Schumer and House of Representatives Democratic leader Nancy Pelosi. “We agreed to enshrine the protections of DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) into law quickly, and to work out a package of border security, excluding the wall, that’s acceptable to both sides,” Schumer and Pelosi said. All year, Democrats have insisted that they will block any legislation that contains funding for a wall along the length of the U.S. border with Mexico, a top Trump campaign goal that many Republicans in Congress also do not support. Throughout his 2016 campaign for president and since taking office in January, Trump has demanded the construction of a wall to keep out illegal immigrants and drugs. He initially said Mexico would pay for the wall but has requested money from the U.S. Congress after the government of Mexico refused to pay. While White House officials have suggested legislation on DACA could move forward without wall funding, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders disputed the characterization that a deal had been reached to leave it out of any legislation focused on the Dreamers. “While DACA and border security were both discussed, excluding the wall was certainly not agreed to,” she said on Twitter. The dinner was the latest effort in a new initiative by Trump to work with opposition party Democrats on major legislation. President Donald Trump and Democratic leaders in the U.S. Congress have agreed to work together on legislation to protect “Dreamers,” the illegal immigrants who were children when they entered the United States, the lawmakers said on Wednesday, although a dispute erupted over exactly what had been agreed. Following the dinner, a White House official said the president, Schumer and Pelosi discussed tax reform, immigration, border security, infrastructure investments and trade as part of Trump’s bid to reach out to Democrats. The administration looks forward to continuing these conversations with leadership on both sides of the aisle,” the official said. Over a dinner of Chinese food, Trump and the Democratic leaders also discussed issues related to U.S.-China trade, according to a congressional aide briefed on the meeting. Schumer and Pelosi also said that they urged Trump to make permanent government subsidy payments under the Affordable Care Act, also known as “Obamacare.” “Those discussions will continue,” the lawmakers said. Trump and most Republicans in Congress have demanded the repeal of Obamacare but have been unable to agree on a replacement for the healthcare program that became law in 2010. Using his executive powers, Trump canceled Obama’s DACA program in which about 800,000 undocumented young people have escaped the threat of deportation and been able to apply for work permits in the United States. Trump argued that Obama over-stepped his authority in creating the program. But Trump gave Congress six months to come up with a replacement program in the form of legislation to be enacted into law. "The president said, he would not insist on wall funding as part of a Dreamers bill, but would pursue it on other, future legislation." told reporters Democratic Representative Henry Cuellar, who attended a White House meeting with Trump earlier on Wednesday. Cuellar said Trump urged lawmakers to link a Republican bill to cut legal immigration to the United States with protections for Dreamers. But many Democrats oppose lowering the cap on annual legal immigration. #ReutersNews #RichardCowan #SteveHolland #DACA #bordersecurity #PresidentDonaldTrump #NancyPelosi #ChuckSchumer #HenryCuellar #Dreamers
- Hurricane Irma evacuees began returning to find homes ripped apart, and businesses coated in seaweed
“ I don’t have a house. I don’t have a job. I have nothing ,” said Mercedes Lopez, 50, whose family fled north from the Florida Keys town of Marathon last Friday and rode out the storm at an Orlando hotel, only to learn their home was destroyed, along with the gasoline station where he worked. “ We came here, leaving everything at home, and we go back to nothing ,” Lopez said. His and three other families from Marathon planned to venture back on Wednesday to salvage what they can. Hurricane Irma evacuees began returning to the storm-ravaged Florida Keys on Tuesday to find homes ripped apart and businesses coated in seaweed amid a debris-strewn landscape where an estimated 25 percent of all dwellings were destroyed. The death toll from Irma, previously ranked as one of the most powerful Atlantic storms on record and the second major hurricane to strike the U.S. mainland this season, climbed to more than five dozen. Of those, 43 were killed in the Caribbean and at least 18 in the Southeastern United States. Read More #AndySullivan #HurricaneIrma #FloridaKeys #Caribbean

- America got out of 9/11 stronger than before, politically and economically stronger.
Today, 16 years later, we still here to remember the unforgettable Tuesday morning of 9/11. We will always honour the 2,997 people killed by the Islamic terrorist group al-Qaeda, and the other 6,000 people injured in New York City, Washington, DC and outside of Shanksville, Pennsylvania. The 19 al-Qaeda terrorists on September 11, 2001 tried to spread panic around the U.S., killing and injuring thousands of people and causing at least $10 billion damage in infrastructure and property. During the initial attacks and the collapse of the World Trade Center towers the heroes were, 343 New York City firefighters, 23 were New York City police officers and 37 were officers at the Port Authority. They ranged in age from twenty two to 85 years. Approximately 75-80% of the victims were men. On the day of the attacks, Mayor Rudy Giuliani proclaimed, "We will rebuild New York City. We're going to come out of this stronger than before, politically stronger, and economically stronger. The skyline will be made whole again." In a later address before Congress, the president George W. Bush declared, "As a symbol of America's resolve, my administration will work with Congress, and these two leaders, to show the world that we will rebuild New York City." The immediate response from World Trade Center leaseholder Larry Silverstein was that "it would be the tragedy of tragedies not to rebuild this part of New York. It would give the terrorists the victory they seek." Today, the first World Trade Center building rises to 1,368 feet (417 m), the height of the original north tower. Its antenna rises to the symbolic height of 1,776 feet (541 m) referring to 1776, the year in which the United States Declaration of Independence was signed. The construction of the 2 World Trade Center building is currently on hold. The 3 World Trade Center, stands across Greenwich Street. It was topped out in 2016 and is nearing completion; it is due to be fully completed in 2018. The 4 World Trade Center, is a skyscraper and it was opened to tenants and the public on November 2013. The 5 World Trade Center will stand where the Deutsche Bank Building once stood as the 42-story building for JP Morgan Chase investment banking headquarters. #911 #NewYorkCity #September11 #Giuliani #GeorgeWBush #WorldTradeCenter
- Deezer is going toe-to-toe with its rivals Spotify and Apple.
From Brazilian gospel to Puerto Rican reggaeton and Dutch hip-hop, music streaming company Deezer is scouring the globe for gaps in the market where it can survive and thrive against Spotify and Apple. The French firm has little hope of success going toe-to-toe with its far bigger rivals in the mass-market realms inhabited by the likes of Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran. Instead it is focusing on local music genres in fast-growing, often non-English language markets, areas where it believes it can steal a march. It is targeting local listeners while also looking to position itself for a global audience as a “cool”, non-mainstream alternative. As part of this strategy, launched this year and called Deezer Next, it is dispatching local teams of “editors” to identify talent in niche genres and create original content, Netflix-style. The aim is not only to differentiate its catalog but also to reduce its reliance on the record labels that take the lion’s share of streaming services’ revenue. It has 40 editors globally, and is looking to recruit more. Deezer Chief Executive Hans-Holger Albrecht said he would target selected markets in Latin America, Asia and Africa where Spotify was not already predominant. They include Guatemala, Bolivia, Paraguay, Colombia, Nigeria, Senegal and South Africa. “I strongly believe in the localisation of content,” he told Reuters. “While Spotify is mainly playlist-focused, we are betting on local differentiation, and this has helped us become number one in gospel in Brazil.” But finding a path to profit represents a formidable task for the loss-making company. It has a similar "freemium" to market leader Spotify, whereby it attracts users by offering advert-supported free access and charges a monthly fee of about $10 for the full service. However it has only 12 million active users - about 9 million paying - compared with Spotify's 60 million paying subscribers, and brings in just a tenth of the Swedish firm's $3 billion annual revenue. (For a graphic on global subscribers click tmsnrt.rs/2jb01Uu) Deezer, controlled by billionaire investor Len Blavatnik, is nonetheless sinking tens of millions of euros into this local music drive. Its strategy is based on a bet that music streaming will continue to grow rapidly to eventually eclipse all other forms of music listening. The paid streaming market is expected to grow 16 percent to $28 billion by 2030 in terms of annual revenue, according to Goldman Sachs "Streaming is a very young market, with just about 10 percent penetration globally, so there is a lot of potential still,” said Albrecht. - Hurricane Irma flooded the streets of the currently ghost town, Miami's
About 1.8 million homes and businesses went out of power today as the powerful Hurricane Irma flooded the streets of the currently ghost town, Miami's. Around 5.6 million people, a third of the state’s population, had been ordered to evacuate southern Florida. “There is a serious threat of significant storm surge flooding along the entire west coast of Florida. This is a deadly storm, a life-threatening situation.” Governor Rick Scott told a press conference. Irma, the most powerful hurricanes ever seen in the Atlantic, started early on Wednesday, September 6th, hitting Caribbean islands as Category 5 storm with packing winds of 185 miles per hour (295 km per hour). On Sunday morning, September 10th, the storm dropped down to Category 3 hitting southern Florida with maximum sustained winds of 120 miles per hour (195 kph). Tornadoes are also spotted through the region. Irma has killed, until now, 28 people in the Caribbean and one man in southern Florida. The storm have destroyed thousands of homes and business buildings and is expected to cause billions of dollars in damage to the third-most-populous U.S. state, a major tourism hub with an economy that generates about 5 percent of U.S. gross domestic product. The National Hurricane Center forecast that Irma’s center eye will move near or over the state’s west coast later on Sunday. #HurricaneIrma #Miami
